Gueghard is a complex with stone-made monasteries and churches. It is located in south-east; 35 km far from Yerevan.It is situated on the upper stream of the river Azat, in the historical Geghardadzor. The complex is included in the World Heritage of UNESCO. It is one of the most important sites of Armenia. The exact date of its foundation is not known. According to Armenian manuscripts it was built in the early years of establishment Christianity as a state religion in Armenia.
