Goris

The town of Goris is situated in Syunik region of Armenia, approximately 240 km far from the capital Yerevan and 70 km far from the center of the Syunik region - Kapan. It's located on the bank of the river Vararak. The city has a strategic importance as far as it's on the highway Yerevan - Stepanakert. Old Goris or the village of Goris is located on the eastern part of the city. It represents a whole range of cave settlements. The present territory of the town was uninhabited before the 1870 years. The hill which is the symbol of the town is situated in the eastern part of the town. Locals call the hill Lasti Khut. High mountains, pyramid-shaped peaks deep gorges and canyons are the important site attractions of Goris. Here the nature is beautiful, the air is very clean. The climate is mild, with snowy winters and hot summers.

Tatev Monastery

The Monastery of Tatev is a 9th century Armenian monastery located in the Tatev village in Syunik Provincein southern Armenia. The term "Tatev" usually refers to the monastery. It stands on a plateau on the edge of the deep gorge of the Orotan (Vorotan) River. It became the bishopric seat of Syunik and played a significant role in the history of the region as a centre for economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity. n the 14th and 15th centuries Tatev Monastery hosted one of the most important Armenian medieval universities which contributed to the education of science, religion and philosophy; reproduction of books and development of miniature painting. Scholars of Tatev University contributed to the preservation of Armenian culture and creed during one of its most turbulent periods in its history. According to tradition, Tatev Monastery is named after Eustateus, a disciple of St. Thaddeus the Apostle, who preached and was martyred in this region. His name has evolved to Tatev. In 1995, the monasteries of Tatev, Tatevi Anapat and their adjacent areas of the Vorotan Valley were added to the tentative list of World Heritage Sites of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
