The town of Jugha is one of the most significant settlemets in the historical Erjnak province. Jugha survived until 1848. Jugha was an important commercial and military hub. Routes from Far East to the Mediterranean were passing through Jugha.
During the 17th century turkish-persian war, the Persian shah Abas the First attacked and conquered Nakhijevan province of Turkey, then also conquered Yerevan. After they conquered Yerevan, the Turkish forces started a new attack, after a short breakin the end of 1604. Shah Abas, realizing that his army is much smaller, moved back to his country.
