Mersin is located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, in former vilayet of Adana (Kilikia). Mersin is an important port of Mediterrabean (Mersin Bay). In 1914 it had 12 thousand population, 2500 of which- Armenians. Armenians were mostly engaged in trade and craft making. Armenians had 2 twin churches -schools, separated into male and female departments, as well as a kindergarden. The Armenians of Mersin were forced to leave their territories during the Armenian Genocide in 1915. Most of these Armenians were killed on the way.
